Second Event of 2014 Four Seasons Carp Cup looked to be a good one with the weather holding up and every pair buzzing to get the draw done and get fishing.
Draw took place @ Orchard Place Farms onsite café at 9:30am as normal were 23 pairs attended with eager breath, hoping for a good draw! The draw took 30 minutes and all the pairs knew were they was fishing and was off to setup and get ready.
12 o Clock cam around quick and the Hooter went! Game on!
It was a slow start to the event with few fish coming in the opening few hours. Fish were showing in the middle of lake 8 and all over the place in lake 7. No fish so far but was looking good for a battle of a match.
3 Hours into the match and it started to kick off with an un-fancied swim on lake 8 bagging the 1st fish, Jonny Jay & Peter Bushell managed to land a nice 13.12lb Mirror from close in on the island. This seemed to start the match off with Lake 7 pair Keith Pepper & Paul Franks bagging the 1st 20lb Carp of the march at 21.8lb.
Over the first night there was 4 fish caught 3 on lake 8, two of which came to experienced pair Tim & Andy Swain putting them 1st on lake 8 over the first night.
On the second day lake 8 seemed to dry up and the match began on lake 7 with all pairs getting in on the action. Most action came on peg 22 on the point with Louis Lammy & Jack Brann racing into a monster lead of 82lb. Within this flurry of fish from the run away leaders they had a 6 minutes spell with 4 runs, Three of the fish caught were over the 20lb mark as per picture below.
Again the night came along and killed the fishing dead. Seemed the sunny days and dropping cold nights didn’t help the fish. Lake 8 produced a couple of fish to Peg 2 Darren & Adam and Lake 7 had a couple out in the night too. But no one saw what was about to happen.
The last morning of the match and Louis Lammy & Jack Brann still had a nice lead but out of no were Peg 11 Ben Coleborn & Alex Quelch went on the rampage. Within the last 3 hours of the match managed to get within 13lb of the lead. The last 5 minutes came and Peg 11 bent into a fish, nervy stuff but they managed to get this fish in the net. Was this fish over the 13lb mark they need to win an amazing Ding Dong Battle on lake 7? It was 18lb Golden Common (A Bar of Gold they might say).
After this Hum Dinger of a match and the battle of the two pegs on lake 7 the end results looked like this.
